You will be picked-up from your hotel in Puno between 6:15 and 6:25 am to begin our trip to Colca’s National Park. Our first stop will be in “Lagunillas”, an astonishing place where you will see migratory birds like flamingos, ibis, Andean geese, ducks and Andean eagles (“Kara Kara”). Then, we’ll continue into the National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca (Pampas Cañahuas) where we’ll make small stops to see the beautiful vicuñas in their natural habitat.
Afterwards we’ll move along Pataguas, Here, half-way to Colca, we’ll make a stop to use the restrooms and drink some coca tea. After 15 min, we’ll continue into Vizcachani and the wetlands of Toccra, where you’ll see: alpacas, llamas and different varieties of wild birds.
The next place we’ll visit will be Patampampa, the highest point of the trip with 4900 m.a.s.l. From here one is able to see the Chila Mountains, as well as the volcanoes: Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca Hualca and Mismi (considered to be the origin of the Amazon River).
From this point on we’ll begin to descend into Colca’s National Park, arriving to our hotel: Killawasi Lodge approximately 1:45 pm.
In the afternoon you can rest and relax in your private balcony or terrace and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Moreover, you could visit the hot springs located only 20 minutes away (by foot) from the hotel, or if you prefer, you can enjoy a small walk through Yanque. During this walk you will visit Yanque’s plaza, its colonial church, as well as its museum where, among other things, you will see a replica of the Juanita mummy and an exhibition of all the colonial churches in Colca.
Second day: TREKKING AND ADITIONAL ACTIVITIES
You’ll have this morning clear to relax and enjoy the hotel, or if you like we can organize for you (with an additional cost) a guided horseback or bike ride. In both cases you’ll visit different points of interest around the town of Yanque.
In the case of the horseback ride there’s no need to have experience with this animal. The horses are trained and used to the routes. Also, you will always count with the support of a guide. However, in the case of the bike ride, you need to be in very good shape and to have performed this activity before.
At the end of your chosen activity, you can rest on the hammocks or in your private balcony or terrace. Then, if you like, you can enjoy a refreshing lunch in our restaurant.
In the afternoon, you could start with us a guided trek of approximately three hours. During this trek we’ll visit Oqolle’s Amphitheater (Pre-Inca terraces), we’ll cross the Sifón Bridge (where you’ll see the colcas) and arrive at the Uyu Uyu ruins, from where you will see a panoramic view of the Canyon and the town of Yanque.
